Hamirpur,March 28, A State Level Function of De-addiction Campaign (Nasha Niwaran Ahhiyan) was organised at Hamirpur today under the aegis of State
Information & Public Relations Department. As many as 58 participants drawn from almost all the districts took part in the Declamation, Slogan Writing and Paintings competitions held on this occasion. The participants had secured first position, both in senior and junior categories in all the events at district level.
Inaugurating the two day function of Nasha Niwaran Abhiyan by lighting the lamp, Ms. Nandita Gupta, Deputy Commissioner Hamirpur said that all types of addictions were harbinger of social crimes and reflected the vulnerable area of our society. The drug addiction apart from other kinds of addictions was not only a social but a moral crime as well. She urged the youth to inculcate moral values in their life and come forward to bring transformation for building a healthy society with a sound mind and body.
Deputy Commissioner said that there was an urgent need to adopt a reformist attitude towards addicts and they need social, moral and emotional support and not boycott. The menace of addiction had been a deep rooted social problem and only a sense of commitment can weed out the stigma of addiction. She lauded the role of Information and Public Relations department towards making a humble beginning by creating awareness among the youth about the ill effects of addiction and taking preventive measures to check this social stigma.
Welcoming the chief guest, Shri Rajendra Rajan, Deputy Director, Information and Public Relations Department said that Nasha Niwaran campaign had been launched in the state since 1995 and the department was making concerted efforts to enlist the support of students community, NGOs, Mahila Mandals and PRI’s in making the campaign a mass movement. He presented a memento to Ms. Nandita Gupta on the occasion.
Shri Amar Singh Thakur, DPRO, Hamirpur listed the details of the three events viz. Declamation, Slogan Writing and Painting Competition and welcomed the participants from all over the State.
