Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister, assured a delegation of Giu village in Spiti Sub-Division of Lahaul and Spiti District, led by Dr. Ram Lal Markanda, and accompanied by Shri Lobzang Bodh, President, District Lahaul and Spiti BJP, Shri Chhering Bodh, General Secretary, Shri Ashok Kumar, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Giu and Shri Targe, a prominent person of the village, that the State Government would be putting in best of its efforts to rehabilitate the residents of Giu village, a major portion of which had been washed in floods during last rainy season, would be suitably located in Scheleche near Hurling on the Pooh-Kaza highway to secure the life and property of the residents of the village.
Chief Minister said that the State Government was concerned about the safety and proper rehabilitation of the residents of Giu village and had directed the local authorities to identify suitable land to relocate the villagers at a safe place where all basic amenities could be made available to them. He said that the damage caused to the village had been assessed by the local revenue authorities and suitable action taken in the matter by providing them emergency help. He said that since the village was on the international border of the country and all its residents would be rehabilitated suitably at a safer place.
Prof. Dhumal reiterated the resolve of State Government to pay added attention towards the speedy development and socio-economic upliftment to bring them at par with the rest of the society. He directed the authorities to take effective steps to relocate the village suitably so that villagers could dwell in fearless and secure environment. He assured the villagers that their interests were safe in the hands of State Government and effective steps were being taken to get the village relocated on priority.
