14 Apr : All but one of the 20 passengers were killed when a bus fell into a gorge near Bagdaigarh village in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district on Tuesday. Nineteen people, including the driver and the conductor, died on the spot while one person, who was sitting on the roof of the bus, jumped off and escaped with injuries, police said.
Two women, who had gone to the foothills with their cattle, were also injured after being hit by stones, which fell as the bus plunged into the 500-metre gorge near the village, about 80 km from the district headquarters, they said.
The bus was en-route to Charda village of Chamba from nearby Nakrot village, they said.
Himachal Transport minister Kishan Kapoor rushed to the accident site in the interior of Chamba district, official sources said, adding Deputy Commissioner Muneesh Garg and Additional Superintendent of Police D K Chaudhary supervised rescue operation.
Meanwhile, Governor Prabha Rau and Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal expressed grief over the mishap.
Speaker Tulsi Ram, who hails from Chamba and leader of the opposition Vidya Stokes also condoled the accident.
This is tooo bad to hear about the accident of the bus near charda,there were many people in the to whom i knew.The driver of the bus was my friend.I belong from delhi but i was put up there for my work of tower.I usually travel on that bus when i was working there,the condition of the bus was such bad that driver drives that bus with lot’s of pressure.Whatever but many of the innocent people were killed.I pray to GOD that their soul mey rest in peace.
