Chandigarh, March 16 –Two officials of Haryana Government including a Junior Engineer and an Assistant Sub Inspector have been convicted and sentenced to imprisonment and fined by Courts as they were caught red handed while accepting illegal gratification. Also, in yet another case, a former Sarpanch has been convicted in connection with embezzlement of Government funds.While stating this here today, a spokesman of Haryana State Vigilance Bureau said that Tarsem Kumar, Junior Engineer in the office of District Town Planner, Ambala City was nabbed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 10,000 from one Ravinder Kumar of Ambala, in lieu of issuing the ‘No Objection Certificate’ of a plot situated at Saha. Ravinder Kumar approached vigilance officials who laid a trap and the Junior Engineer was caught red-handed. In its judgment dated March 1,2011, the Special Judge Ambala has sentenced the culprit to one year rigorous imprisonment with fine of Rs.1,000 under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and two years rigorous imprisonment with fine of Rs. 2000 under section 13 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The case was registered at the Police Station of the Bureau in Ambala.
In another case, Assistant Sub Inspector, Shyam Lal Saini, Police Station, Sadar, Ambala City had been caught red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs. 2000 from Mr Gurmeet Singh, a resident of village Pinjokhra, district Ambala. The ASI had threatened Gurmeet Singh that he would implicate him in a false case unless the money was paid. ASI Shyam Lal has now been convicted to undergo one year rigorous imprisonment with fine of Rs. 1,000 under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and two years rigorous imprisonment with fine of Rs. 2000 under section 13 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 by the Court of Special Judge, Ambala, vide judgment dated March 5,2011. The case was registered in Police Station of the Bureau, Ambala.
In yet another case, Jai Bhagwan, Ex-Sarpanch, Gram Panchayat, Niwarsi in district Kurukshetra who was involved in defalcation of Panchayat money and embezzlement of Government funds has been convicted to undergo two years rigorous imprisonment with fine of Rs. 1,000 by the Court of CJM, Kurukshetra.
