Kurukshetra Nov.14- ‘Let the Indian political leaders learn to behave from Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru who was a hero for Nelson Mandela of South Africa for his wisdom of dealing with his oppressors with smooth ways rather than retaliate. We have to appreciate his vision and mission for nationalism by loving and caring children who are the hope for development,’ said Dr. M. M. Goel, President Antarjyoti (Flame of the Inner Light) for awakening the inner feelings of people & Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Kurukshetra University while paying his tributes to the first Prime Minister of India on his 124th birth anniversary known as Children’s Day.
Although there is ban on child labor which is hardly implemented in India, yet there is strong case for revising the definition of child which should be reduced to 10 years instead of 14 years because there is no harm if a child of more than 10 is working on part time basis for financing education as today’s Indian child want to be educated and independent like Americans, believes Professor Goel an author of the book “ Economics of Human Resource Development in India”
There are negative implications of child marriages in India which can no longer be neglected. The discrimination in keeping the age of marriage 18 for women and 21 for men deserve rectification as soon as possible in the name of gender equality, said Professor Goel.
He quoted the essay of Malthus (1803) ‘ An Essay on the Principles of Population: a View of its past and present Effects on Human Happiness: with an Inquiry in to Prospects Respecting the future Removal or Mitigation of the Evils Which it Occasions’ now known as Malthusian theory of population which justified delayed marriages without mentioning gender discrimination on age at marriage.
Women empowerment calls for education as the only remedy which can change the mindset of the poor parents of the daughters with looks, actions and words (LAW) more than any law of the land including Prohibition of Child Marriage Act or Ban on Child labour, said Professor Goel.
How come that theindiapost publishes untrue and halfbaked personal things as news item, as has been this case. Just explain what is the link of Nelson Mandela of South Africa with Chacha Nehru of India? How come that this writer pleads for lowering the age of child labor in India and opposing the govt policy on child labor ! On one hands he talks of equality of age for marriage, but on the other hand, he gives ridiculous tips to the Poor Indian Parents to make their daughter Look Better. This confused man must not be allowed to spread carnage against the defined state policies and pollute the societal fabric in future. Hope theindiapost will take care of such selfstyled exhibitionists by giving them space in its columns in future
