SIRSA, SEPT 14 Sri Lanka outplayed hosts Jannayak Chaudhary Devi Lal National Cricket Academy by 60 runs despite a fine all-round performance by Khem Chand (6 for 20 and 77) in a 50-over day-night exhibition match here on Saturday night.
Required to score 208 for win, JCD National Cricket Academy were dismissed for 147 in 43.4 overs. Only Khem Chand played defiant knock of 77 in 113 minutes. Kailash was the second hosts’ batsman who could reach the double figure as he scored 28.
D Arvinda (3 for 14), Chathura (2 for 34) were the most successful bowlers for Sri Lanka.
Winning the toss, Sri Lanka batted first. They lost an early wicket of opener Suresh (12) at 21 . UKD Arvind joined opener Geeth Alwis. They flayed the JCD National Cricket Academy bowlers. Playing their strokes with ease, this pair was associated in a century (115 runs) partnership. They carried the total to 136 before this partnership was broken. Geeth Alwis’ knock of 77 in 98 minutes contained two fours. Arvind made 60 in 57 balls. He reached the fence nine times.
Sitting pretty at 202 for 5, Sri Lanka slumped to 207 all out in 48.2 overs. Their last six wickets fell for just five runs. Off spinner Khem Chand was responsible for Sri Lanka’s collapse with an economical spell of 9.2-1-20-6.
Before the match the teams and officials observed a two-minute silence in memory of those killed in serial bomb blasts in New Delhi yesterday.
