Chandigarh, Sept 12 – Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) has authorized the All India Congress Committee President, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi to appoint its State President and State Level office bearers. The resolution passed at the meeting said, “It was unanimously resolved that the matter regarding elections of President, Vice Presidents, Treasurer, General Secretaries, Secretaries and Executive Committee of Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee be left to Mrs.Sonia Gandhi Ji, Hon’ble President, Indian National Congress.”
This decision was taken at the State Level meeting of the newly elected delegates held here today and presided over by the HPCC President, Mr.Phool Chand Mullana and attended by Haryana Chief Minister, Mr.Bhupinder Singh Hooda. The meeting was also attended by Congress MP and former HPCC Presidents, Mr.Birender Singh, Mr.Ram Parkash, HPCC Working President, Mr.Kuldeep Sharma, Congress MPs Mr.Shadi Lal Batra, Mr.Ashok Tanwar, Mr.Arvind Sharma, former Haryana Congress President, Mr.Balbir Pal Shah, former HPCC Working President and PWD Minister, Mr.Randeep Singh Surjewala, State Women Congress President, Mrs.Sumita Singh, Congress MLAs, Ministers, District Congress Presidents and State Congress Delegates.
The resolution was moved by HPCC President, Mr.Mullana and seconded by Haryana Chief Minister, Mr.Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Congress MPs, Mr.Birender Singh and Mr.Ram Parkash. As many as 172 delegates, out of a total 178 delegates, participated in the meeting. While talking to mediapersons, Mr. Mullana said that the delegates who could not participate in the meeting had also given their consent for the resolution.
Addressing the delegates, Mr.Mullana said that besides the land acquisition policy of the State, which was being appreciated at the national level, the State Government has also implemented a number of other unique schemes like giving 100 sq. yards plots, free water connections and scholarship schemes for the benefit of Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes and Below Poverty Line sections of the society. He called upon other state governments to emulate the pro-poor, pro-SC and pro-people policies of the state government for the benefit of people of those states. He also called upon the party leaders to disseminate the party programmes and achievements in the masses.
Mr.Hooda said that Congress President, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi also appreciated the Land Acquisition Policy of the State Government when he had met her the previous evening. Earlier, also Congress President, Mrs.Sonia Gandhi and General Secretary, Mr.Rahul Gandhi had appreciated the state’s Land Acquisition Policy.
Mr.Hooda said that there was no directive from the party to go for resolution of authorizing Mrs.Sonia Gandhi for the appointment of State President, but it was the sentiment of all in the party that she be authorized for the same, he added.
Mr.Hooda congratulated the party workers and leaders for the peaceful and smooth conduct of the elections. He said that the State Government has implemented number of public-friendly policies and programmes for the benefit of Farmers, Labourers, Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes, Women, Old Age People and Children. He said that the State Government increased the planned budget for current year by 82 per cent with respect to the last year.
While referring to the recent flash floods, the Chief Minister said that the natural calamities did affect the State, but the government has tried to provide succor to the people. He said that some villages have been affected and he was going to Yamunanagar to inspect the losses.
Mr.Hooda said that the Government and the party are two tyres of the same vehicle. While complimenting Mr.Mullana for leading the party back into power, he said, “In his president-ship, the party returned to power.”
The Pradesh Returning Officer, Mr.Raju Parmar congratulated the party delegates. He said that he would convey the sentiments and the resolution to Mrs.Sonia Gandhi through Mr.Oscar Fernandes.
Congress MPs, Mr. Birender Singh and Mr. Ram Parkash also addressed the delegates and appreciated the working of Mr Mullana as the president of HPCC.
