Shriniwas Vashisht joined Indian Police Service in1981 and was allotted to Haryana Cadre. During his long career of 31 years, he has held many important assignments, including Superintendent of Police, Jind, Kurukshetra, Narnaul, Gurgaon and Bhiwani. During his stint as Superintendent of Police, Kurukshetra he successfully nabbed a dreaded gang of seven terrorists who were involved in many serious incidents of violence in Punjab & Haryana.During his posting in other districts, the law and order situation remained well under control and the criminals were kept at a bay.
Shri Vashisht joined Intelligence Bureau, MHA, Govt. of India in 1997 and was promoted as Deputy Director (Deputy Inspector General of Police) in October 1997. During his 5 year assignment in Intelligence Bureau, he handled sensitive matters related to national security. In recognition of his hard work and Merit he was awarded Police Medal for meritorious service in the year 1999 on the occasion of Republic Day. On repatriation to State after successful completion of his tenure in Govt. of India.
Shri Vashisht was promoted as Inspector General of Police in October 2003 and functioned as Director, Haryana Police Academy, Madhuban for two years during which he took initiatives for attitudinal change in the police. During his posting as Inspector General of Police, Faridabad Range he was also awarded President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service on the occasion of Independence Day, 2008. He was promoted as Additional Director General of Police in June, 2009. He was promoted as Director General of Police on 11.5.2012 and remained posted as Director General, State Vigilance Bureau, Haryana.
