Chandigarh, March 21 – Haryana Environment and Forest Minister, Capt. Ajay Singh Yadav said that during the year 2012-13 plantation would be done over an area of 9676 hectares in the State and Rs 460 billion would be spent to bring an area of ten million hectares under aforestation by 2020.
This was stated by the Minister while laying the foundation stone of a Herbal Park which would spread over an area of 17 acres at Kheri village in district Narnaul.
He said that Rs 20 lakh would be spent on the Herbal Park and plants of 37 different species would be planted in it. He said that out of a total of 42 Herbal Parks in the State, five were in Narnaul. He said that in the past seven years, the Chief Minister has given many gifts to this district, which included Central University. Expressing his concern over increasing pollution, he said that deforestation in the region has led to emission of 20 per cent of global green house gases, which was a major cause of global warming.
He said that Haryana government has designed an ambitious plan to convert 33 per cent of the total area into forests. He said that Haryana government is taking appropriate steps for protection of environment and to boost aforestation.
On this occasion, Mrs Anita Yadav, Chief Parliamentary Secretary was also present. Capt. Ajay Singh Yadav and Mrs Anita Yadav inaugurated ‘Van-Agni-Chetna Week’ by planting ‘Triveni’.
