Chandigarh, January 20: Thousands of Congress workers welcomed the newly appointed AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Airport, on his maiden visit after his elevation in the Congress party setup, today.
Rahul Gandhi came back to Delhi with his mother and AICC President Mrs Sonia Gandhi. The congress workers have converged from Delhi and adjoining areas of Haryana especially from NCR districts like Rohtak, Jhajjar, Gurgaon, Faridabad and Palwal.
The Congress workers got pleasantly surprised when enthused by the warm welcome and sloganeering, Rahul came out from his SPG protected SUV car and shook hands and received bunch of flowers from Haryana Chief Parliamentary Secretary Rao Dan Singh, Delhi Congress leader Jagparvesh Kumar, Haryana MLA Naresh Sharma, Rohtak District president Jaideep Dhankhar, Jitender Bhardwaj, Youth Congress leader Mr Sukhinder Singh Hooda, Principal OSD to Chief Minister Mr MS Chopra, Media Advisor Mr Shiv Bhatia, Delhi Youth Congress president Amit Malik, Haryana youth Congress President Mr Amit Sihag and number of other congress workers, who had assembled to welcome Rahul Gandhi. SPG officers had to work hard to control the charged workers, who all wanted to meet and congratulate Rahul Gandhi. The Congress workers were raising slogans in favour of Mrs Sonia Gandhi, Mr Rahul Gandhi and Haryana Chief Minister Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda. The scene of domestic Airport was like a Congress rally as the workers bearing Congress tricolours could be seen in all parts of the area.
