Chandigarh, Jan 6 – Pre-matric scholarship for the wards of persons engaged in unhygienic professions like sweeping, tanning and skinning of animals is being implemented in Haryana by the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
While stating this here today, a spokesman of the Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes Welfare Department, Haryana said that under the scheme a monthly scholarship of Rs 110 and an annual adhoc grant of Rs 750 was given to the students studying from Class I to X.
He said that the department was also running hostels in districts of Ambala, Karnal, Rohtak, Rewari and Faridabad for the wards of the persons engaged in unhygienic professions. Each hostel could accommodate 50 inmates and free food in lieu of scholarship and annual adhoc grant of Rs.1000 was given to each student staying in these hostels.
The spokesman said that the students could contact their Principal for the scholarship and those seeking admission to the hostels could contact the District Welfare Officer concerned.
