The India Post, Panchkula,30th December 2008 :The four-day annual conference of Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE) CHEMCON-2008 came to an end here today at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Panjab University.
CHEMCON 2008 saw various eminent scientists, professors and industrialists from India and abroad come together to talk on the various ways in which green technology could be used and how important sustainable growth is for overcoming the energy crisis the world may have to face in the coming future.
Various Technical sessions were held in DCET on topics like Simulation, Transport Phenomena, Nano Technology, Environment Technology, Green Technology and Chemical Technology.
In the valedictory function held in the Department Auditorium, Prof. V. K. Rattan, Organizing Secretary, CHEMCON 2008 thanked the various delegates, council members, faculty and the student organizers who made the event a grand success. The organizing committee was felicitated for making CHEMCON 2008 a grand success. The Student volunteers worked tirelessly day and night for many days to make this event possible. All the delegates were very happy with the hospitality offered to them by the Department of Chemical Engineering and technology
The new Council of Indian Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology was elected.Mr. Sushil Kumar is the new President and Mr. C. V. Murthy is now the Vice-President of IIChE. CHEMCON-2009 will be held at Vishakhapatnam .
The afternoon saw the Alumni of DCET come back and refresh their good old days on the occasion of formation of DCET ALUMNI ASSOCIATION as a sub-chapter of Panjab University Alumni Association. Prof. R. C. Sobti, Vice Chancellor Panjab University appreciated the step taken by the department on the occasion of completion of 50years of the department in spreading quality education and research.
The alumni were felicitated followed by a very fruitful interactive session coordinated by Sabiha Basur, Abhishek Upmanyu and Love Upadhyay. It was held at the department auditorium where the alumni shared their experiences with the students present. Fun games like dumbcharades, tambola, couple paper dance and tug of war were also organized which were enjoyed by one and all. Everyone felt nostalgic as they visited the Student Centre, their hostel and the department as they remembered their old days. Various eminent alumni like
Prof. Arvind Verma and Mr. Mehra shared their fond memories with everyone and pledged all kind of support to the department in the future.
The evening saw the famous stand up comedian Mr. Uday Dahiya perform at the law auditorium. He had the audience in splits and the audience was left asking for more. He was accompanied by a western troupe ‘Breaking Grounds’ from Mumbai.
In the end the alumni thanked the department head Prof. V. K. Rattan for taking this initiative, as this will prove to be a good step forward for the future of the department.
