Chandigarh, July 18-As many as 61 officers and officials have been convicted under various sections of Prevention of Corruption Act during the first half of current year on the cases filed by State Vigilance Bureau, Haryana.
While stating this here today, a spokesman of the Bureau said that the culprits included five Sub Divisional Officers, six Junior Engineers, ten Revenue officials, 11 police officials and three of HUDA and Electricity Department. The highest number of persons convicted belonged to Police Department closely followed by Revenue and Electricity Departments.He said that jail terms ranging from one to five years have been awarded by the Courts in these cases. Maximum jail sentence of five years has been given in three cases. In one such case, Badam Singh, Foreman was sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment alongwith fine Rs. 5000 by special Judge, Nuh whereas ASI, Mahi Pal was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment of five years alongwith fine Rs. 20,000 and Nurrudin, Compounder, Veternary Hospital, Nuh was also sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment alongwith fine Rs. 5000. In two other cases four years imprisonment with fine of Rs. 20,000 was imposed on Raj Kumar, SDO in case FIR No. 20/2007, Police Station of the Bureau in Hisar and three years imprisonment with fine of Rs. 10,000 imposed on Shankar Lal, Sub Divisional Officer in Case FIR No. 5/2007, Police Station of the Bureau in Hisar by Special Judge, Hisar.
Shriniwas Vashisht, Director, State Vigilance Bureau, Haryana, stated that the Government has been moved to take further action following their conviction. Normally dismissal from service follows a conviction in a court of law.
