SIRSA (Haryana), Sept 7 : Indian Navy grounded Air India by 16 runs in the JCD International Twenty20 Cricket League being played at the JCD National Academy Stadium here today.
Air India opted to field after winning the toss. Navy lost three wickets for 68 runs. However, Yashpal and Amit stemmed the rot as they carried the total to 113 before Amit Kumar was dismissed. Yashpal Singh and Amit were associated for a 45-run partnership for the fourth wicket.. His knock of 30 contained two fours and two sixes.
Yashpal went on to score 47 with the help of two fours and three sixes in 28 deliveries. Sanjeev Mishra remained not out on 21. Opender Narinder Singh contributed 17 runs. He raced to the boundary four times. Navy scored 136 for 6 in stipulated 20 overs.
Air India right arm off spinner Ajit Chandela bagged 5 for 23. Ishan Ganda got 1 for 30.
Chasing a victory target of 137, Air India were bowled out for 120 in 19.4 overs. They got an early jolt as their captain and opener J Arun Kumar (1) was run out with scoreboard reading five for one. Air India lost three more wickets and were reeling at 43 for 4 after 8.6 overs.
Rohit Kumar (48, 3x4s, 2x6s) and Tejeshwi Yadav (19) were associated for 38-run partnership for the fifth wicket. They took the total to 81 for 8 in 14.1 overs. Rahul Yadav (15), all-rounder Ajit Chandela (11) and Deepak Joon (11) were their other main scorers. However, Air India fell short by 16 runs.
Medium fast bower Fazil Mohd (2 for 21) and off spinner Amit Kumar (2 for 22) were the most successful bowlers for Navy.
Yashpal Singh and Ajit Chandela were declared the joint man of the match.
