Chandigarh, April 23 – Sirsa district has become the number one district in the state for effectively implementing Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA). The district has spent a sum of RS 34 crore under the scheme in the year 2010-11.
While stating this here today, an official spokesman said that the district had spent a sum of RS 130 crore in the last five years under the scheme. The district administration now aims to spend a sum of RS 100 crore under the scheme on various developmental works. A toll free number 155321 had also been started for providing information on the scheme.He said that as many as 2000 volunteers would be appointed for ensuring participation of the youth in many rural development schemes particularly MGNREGA. He said that the Sarpanches should decide the priorities of the development works of the villages concerned on April 24, the National Panchayat Day and send the same to district administration for sanctioning. Each village of the district would be provided a computer and priority would be given to the works of drinking water and sanitation.
