Chandigarh, April 16: Top ranking Korean companies have expressed their desire to set up a Korean hub at Gurgaon in Haryana as a gateway to their future investment in the State.An 11- member delegation of prominent Korean companies today called on the Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda here today and sought assistance of the State Government in setting up a Korean hub in Haryana as a sequal to Mr Hooda’s visit to Korea in November 2005 when he had invited Korean entrepreneurs to invest in Haryana. He had also assured all assistance of the State Government to the Korean entrepreneurs.
Today, again Mr Hooda assured them all assistance of the State Government in setting up the Korean Hub to use it as a base, but also urged them to have business partnership with Haryana, might it be for construction of highways or in the form of a Korean City, Business Park, Manufacture Park or Technology Park.
Mr Hooda said that during his last visit to Korea, he was highly impressed with the progress of Korea. He said that in Haryana, 36 technical and financial collaborations have taken place with Korean companies pushing in an investment of Rs. 280 crore. He said that an industrial-friendly climate has been created in Haryana and the State had ranked as number one State in per capita investment where as it was at number 14 three years ago.
Mr. Hooda directed the Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Industries, Mr. P.K. Chaudhary to look into the issue of setting up of a Korean Hub in Haryana and provide them all assistance.
The Korean delegates said that they do intend to invest in Haryana and would come up with proposals for serious investment.They appreciated the developmental plans being implemented by the State government of Haryana for the prosperity of the State. They said that
they were here with investment plans so as to contribute to the economy of the State as a group of 10 business organisations they represent Korean economy to share their business plans and seek advise of the State government. They said that the last visit of Mr. Hooda to Korea had generated interest in Haryana as gateway for investment in India. The proposed Korean Hub would have headquarters of Korean companies under one roof.
While speaking on the occasion, Mr. P.K. Chaudhary said that while the Japanese have already made Haryana a preferred destination, the State government would also like Korean investment to grow in Haryana as the State offered ample opportunities for investment. Haryana was already a leader in getting investment in the sectors of automobiles, IT and Gurgaon has already emerged as a Corporate Capital.
He said that out of every 100 off shore jobs, 28 come to Haryana. This, he said, would benefit Korea from global out reach. The State government has an online investment portal and the rules and procedures have been simplified and the State has the fastest clearances for setting up of
projects.
Mr. P.K. Chaudhary said that while the face of Gurgaon had changed from what it was about two decades ago, the State government had decided to set up two more towns similar to Gurgaon and two more industrial model townships were being set up in NCR and one in Faridabad. He said that the global corridor was also being put up and it would benefit those seeking serious investment. Therefore, the State government would appreciate more aggressive proposals from
Korean companies. He said that if they intended to have a Korean City in Haryana there would be a possibility of setting up of commercial and residential areas, a school and Korean restaurant.
