Chandigarh, April 23- Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda inaugurated Institute of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTR) managed by Maruti Suzuki India Limited, in Rohtak today.
Present on the occasion were Mr. Shinzo Nakanishi, Managing Director and Chief Ececutive Officer (CEO), Maruti Suzuki India Limited, Haryana Industries Minister, Mr Randeep Singh Surjewala, MP Mr Deepender Singh Hooda and other prominent dignitaries.
This state-of the-art driving training facility is an example of Public-Private-Partnership between India’s leading car maker and the Haryana Government. This initiative is in line with Maruti Suzuki’s national initiative to promote road safety in the country. IDTR, Rohtak is expected to train over 20,000 people in safe driving annually.
Total area of IDRT, Rohtak is 14 acres . It has six class rooms with 40 trainees each, two Driving Simulators, 1.8 kms. Long Driving Training Tracks six cars and two buses for training , a Driving Laboratory and a Library. It also has a hall with capacity of 150 seats. The courses at the IDRR included Training Course for Commercial drivers,Learner Driving Training Courses and Customized Driving Training Courses for Police staff,auto drivers, learner license aspirants and companies. Special training would also be provided for traffic rule violators.
With IDTR Rohtak, Maruti Suzuki expands its road safety training infrastructure across the country to include six IDTRs and over 200 Maruti Suzuki Driving schools.
According to a report compiled by International Road Federation, India loses about Rs. one lakh crore every year in road accidents. In terms of fatalities, around 160,000 lives are lost annually in road accidents. While India has only one per cent global vehicular population, it still accounts for over 10 per cent road fatalities, at a global level. Seventy-eight per cent of road accidents are caused due to driver’s fault.
