Chandigarh, January 8 – The former president of Haryana Pradesh Youth Congress, Mr. Chiranjeev Rao today expressed that he is a strong contender for the Gurgaon Lok Sabha seat as he has been actively involved in the public campaigns and hence developed a strong connection with the people of the area.
In a statement issued here, Chiranjeev Rao said that he has been actively participating in political and social activities in this region for last few years and constantly connecting with people through public campaigns. He said that he had worked for strengthening the youth organization of the party as President of the Youth Congress in the State under the guidance of Mr. Rahul Gandhi.
It may be recalled that Chiranjeev Rao was elected President of Youth Congress in year 2010. It was the first time when Haryana Pradesh Youth Congress had adopted the election procedure to select their office bearers as per the direction of Mr. Rahul Gandhi.
Chiranjeev Rao said that during his tenure as President, he had started the state-wide programme named ‘Panchayat Chalo’, which was very successful. Under this programme, Youth Congress made its reach at village level for the first time and worked for the strengthening of organization at grassroots level. Through the membership drive, he had been very successful in widening the base of the party and connecting lakhs of youth with its youth organization. He also raised the problems of farmers and laborers at several platform and made efforts to get them redressed. Under his leadership, the Youth Congress organized awareness campaigns on issues like Women Education and their Safety too, he added.
Chiranjeev Rao said that due to emergence of Gurgaon as IT hub and it is represented by a large segment of the youth. Being a youth, he is well aware of the needs of the region. Besides, the people of this area have a large participation in Armed Forces in the Country and his family also hails from Army background. His father, Capt Ajay Singh Yadav earlier served the nation as Captain of Indian Army and later dedicated his entire life for serving the people of Haryana. He got elected consecutively for six times as MLA from Rewari Constituency. His grandfather Rao Abhay Singh was the first MLA from Ahirwal Region. Thus, his family has been associated with people of Ahirwal Region for the last sixty years politically as well as socially. As he has deep roots in Ahirwal both politically and socially, therefore, he is an eligible candidate to represent the area.
He said that during the tenure of present State Government various major projects in this area like the first Defence University of the country, Expansion of Metro, Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Express Way, new rail line in Mewat and a Medical College were gifted to the people of this area.
It may be recalled that after the announcement by MP from Gurgaon Rao Inderjeet Singh that he will not be contesting the election on Congress ticket. The claim of Chiranjeev Rao could be considered seriously as Vice President, AICC Mr. Rahul Gandhi has been emphasizing on more participation of youth in ensuing Lok Sabha election and 26 years old Chiranjeev Rao had been former President of Haryana Pradesh Youth Congress.
Chiranjeev Rao is active in Youth Congress for last seven years. He had served as General Secretary and State Secretary of NSUI and also served as NSUI Observer in Punjab University Students Union elections.
Chiranjeev Rao had inherited politics. Chiranjeev Rao’s father Capt. Ajay Singh Yadav has made a record by winning elections consecutively six times from Rewari constituency. This family has strong hold in Ahirwal. Capt. Yadav and Chiranjeev Rao both are sociable persons. Capt. Yadav has been representing Rewari constituency for last 25 years and is popular among all sections of society. However, Chiranjeev Rao had played an active role in the last two assembly elections. Chiranjeev Rao was also very active in the campaign launched by Rahul Gandhi in Uttar Pradesh against land acquisition.
Chiranjeevi Rao has been active in politics as well as in social field. The Cricket Tournaments introduced by him to identify talented young players of Ahirwal was highly appreciated. Also, he inspired people for donating blood by organizing several blood donation camps.
Chiranjeev Rao is son-in-law of RJD supremo and former Chief Minister of Bihar, Mr Lalu Prasad Yadav. Rao Abhay Singh, the grandfather of Chiranjeev Rao, was elected as MLA in the year 1952, 1957 and 1972.
