CHANDIGARH, NOVEMBER 13 : Haryana Congress Legislature Party (CLP) has assailed the hike in excise duty on petrol and diesel prices by Rs 1.50 per litre each, saying it was a “a serious body blow” to the economy.
“The BJP-led Union government’s move to mop up an additional Rs 13,000 crore in revenue may translate into similar increase in retail prices of petrol and diesel as well,” CLP Leader Ms Kiran Choudhry said in a statement issued here, on Thursday.
She said the decision to increase price would adversely affect the economy. “The government should have instead further reduced the prices of petrol and diesel in view of the steep fall in international oil prices to give relief to the ‘aam aadmi’ (the common man) who was made to consume costliest petrol in the world,” Ms Choudhry said.
The three-time Congress MLA from Tosham also said the price hike in petrol and diesel is a serious body blow to economy as a whole. “In particular, it will have a serious adverse impact on rural and transport sector which would have cascading effect on the entire economy,” she apprehended.
“Congress party condemns such an anti-people decision,” CLP Leader commented, while questioning the BJP that if this would bring “ache din” (good days) for the common man?
