Gurgaon, Jan 11 – In view of a large number of migratory birds coming to Sultanpur National Bird Sanctuary in district Gurgaon from foreign lands, the Union Forest and Environment Ministry has earmarked a space of five Kms radius around this sanctuary as an Eco Sensitive Zone.
While stating this today, a spokesman of Gurgaon district administration said that under this zone, the District Administration has also prepared a Zonal Master Plan for conservation of environment.
Situated about 15 Kms from Gurgaon, the Sultanpur National Bird Sanctuary is frequented by 30,000 birds of almost 250 species from many foreign countries, especially for the purpose of mating. This lake is also a reservoir of natural water resources which helps to improve the underground water level. Indian birds like Cranes thrive in this lake throughout the year. This year too the migrating birds are a big attraction for tourists. These birds include Oriental Honey Buzzard, Eurasian Marsh Harrier, Sarus Crane, Imperial Eagle, Indian Bush Lark and Tawny Pipits.
