GURGAON, Oct 20 :Leading Indian amateur HS Kang led his home team, the Chandigarh Golf Club, into the finals of the seventh McDowell’s Signature Club Golf Championship by the narrowest of margins in the Northern Regional final played at the Classic Golf Resort here on Monday.
Chandigarh Golf Club totaled 127 points which was enough to push them past Jaipur’s Rambagh Golf Club which fell back by one solitary stroke to finish at 126 points. The top scores in each category and the fourth best card out of the total six members contributed to the final tally of the respective team. Three-time champions Noida Golf Club had to be content with a third place finish.
Apart from Kang, the winning team consisted of Navjot Mann, AS Bath, JS Kesar, PPS Sawhney and Col. SDS Bath while the team from Jaipur was represented by Siddharth Sharma, Varun Pardhal, Ajay Dixit, Kunal Kuchal, Deepak Sharma and Harvinder Singh. The winners went home with a plasma television set and of course an-all paid expense trip to the enchanting Bali islands.
With this win, Chandigrah Golf Club who beat nine other clubs, became the second club to book a spot in the grand finale to be held in Bali in December after the unheralded and debutants Belgaum making it to the title clash from the Southern Region. The regional final saw some of the country’s most talented amateurs which included the likes of Asian Games Gold medalist and Arjuna Awardee Amit Luthra, big names on the LG Amateur Tour – Jasjeet Singh (Noida Golf Course), HS Kang, Akarsh Choubey (Classic Golf Resort), Amit Kumar (Jaypee Greens Golf Resort) and Siddharth Sharma (Rambagh Golf Club) amongst others.
