Chandigarh, February 28 – Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal today announced that the State Government has decided to promote organic farming in the state. For giving advice in this direction ,an advisory Committee of specialists would be constituted soon. He said that the brand name ‘Haryana Fresh’ has been registered and through this, organic food would be provided to people alongwith beverages.
The Chief Minister was addressing the farmers the farmers of the country and from abroad gathered the three-day long 5th National Organic Farming Convention organized at Sector 26 here today.
He said that the government would encouragae organic farming on 10 per cent area of total cultivable area in the state which would be further carried out in a phased manner. He said that consumers’ alongwith farmers should also become aware in this direction so that they would use organic items in their households.
While referring to decreasing land holdings in agriculture, the Chief Minister said that we should also focus on diversification of farming along with traditional . Today is Science Day and to make this day memorable we should inspire everyone to resort to organic farming and promote organic food items, he added.
Earlier, Agriculture Minister, Mr. O.P. Dhankar said that the green revolution had first hit Haryana and Punjab in the country and quality of food grains was affected with increased quantity. He said that with a view to increase the income of farmers, the State Government is going to introduce ‘Gau Sanrakshan Aur Gau Samwardhan’ scheme under which rearing of indigenous cows would be promoted. He said that we have to be organized to sell our products and also we have to organize the market.
The Agriculture Minister said that Agri Leaders Summit is being organized in Gurgaon from March 13 to 15 under which Agri Business Summit would also be organized. The Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal would also be present in this summit, he added.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister released a book and a CD on organic farming. Also, the Chief Minister, Agriculture Minister and organizer of the Convention, Mr. Umendra Datt sown organic seeds in a bowl to promote organic farming.
