Chandigarh, August 17– The level of water in river Yamuna at Hathnikund Barrage in river Yamuna has reduced to 2.96 lakh cusecs as against over 6.41 lakh cusecs earlier. This flow of water is constantly reducing.
While stating this today, an official spokesman said that district Yamunanagar administration is fully alert to meet any eventuality. He said that water has not entered the area of ‘abadi’ in any of the villages and no untoward incident has been reported from any area in the district.
Meanwhile in district Panipat, the district administration rescued five shepherds and 200 sheep from the rising level of water in river Yamuna, in a night-long operation launched with the help of boats and motor boats. They were trapped over a small island in river Yamuna at village Pathargarh. As soon as the district administration got information, they were rescued with the help of 10 divers, two motor boats and 15 other persons. It is expected that the level of water in river Yamuna would start reducing by tonight.
