Chandigarh, December 4 – Apart from winning the INLD citadel of Ratia, Congress Party has increased its vote percentage by 49 per cent with respect to the last elections held in Ratia and Adampur, while its opponents INLD and BJP-HJC alliance has lost 5.05 per cent and 0.62 per cent votes respectively. In Ratia, elections were held in 2009 for the assembly while Adampur had gone to polls about one and half month back in Hisar Parliamentary bye elections.
The total poll percentage has also increased by 8.99 per cent and the Congress seemed to have gained more than that. Earlier in Ratia, 1,26,112 people have exercised their franchise while 1,44,137 polled this time which is an increase of 18,025 votes and 14.29 per cent with respect to the last elections. Similarly, 2,502 more people exercised their franchise in comparison to the last elections held. 1,04,616 people voted this time, while 1,02,114 had polled in Hisar parliamentary bye election.
The comparison study of Ratia and Adampur depicts rosy picture for the Congress party as it increased its votes from 62,185 to 92,678, which is an increase of 30,493 votes and thus 49 per cent increase in comparison to the last elections held in Ratia and Adampur. In Ratia Congress had got 46,713 votes in 2009, and this time it has increased to 65,071 votes, which is an impressive increase of 49 per cent.
The vote percentage of INLD decreased by 5.05 per cent, it had got 50,095 and 28,033 in last elections whereas it had to content itself with 52,368 and 21,811, which comes to 74,179 votes this time against the 78,128 in the last elections. The INLD suffered more in Adampur as it lost 22.19 per cent votes and gained merely 4.53 per cent in Ratia.
Similarly, despite retaining the Adampur seat, the BJP-HJC alliance lost 428 votes against the 68,846 votes polled in its favour in the last elections, thereby loosing 0.62 per cent votes. This time BJP-HJC candidates got 50,276 and 18,142 votes in Adampur and Ratia respectively. The alliance also lost its deposit in Ratia. Earlier, it had polled 51,640 and 17,206 votes respectively in the last elections held.
In terms of total votes polled, the Congress has gained remarkably while INLD and BJP-HJC vote share has decreased vis-à-vis the total votes polled. In 2009 Vidhan Sabha elections, Congress Party had polled 37.04 per cent but it got 45.15 per cent votes in today’s election results, which is an increase of 8.11 per cent in terms of total vote percentage. Similarly, Congress party polled 26.39 per cent in the Adampur assembly bye election, whereas it had got only 15.15 per cent in Adampur during the last Hisar parliamentary bye elections. INLD lost 3.39 per cent in Ratia as it got 36.33 per cent in this election, while it had won earlier by getting 39.72 per cent, in Adampur it lost 6.6 per cent votes as it had got 27.45 per cent in Hisar parliamentary bye elections but could get 20.85 per cent of total votes polled, this time. HJC-BJP candidate got 48.06 per cent in the assembly bye election in Adampur, whereas it had got 50.57 per cent in the last parliamentary bye election. HJC-BJP had contested the previous 2009 Ratia assembly election and had got 13.64 per cent collectively, which were reduced to 12.59 per cent in this assembly bye election, which is a decrease of 1.05 per cent.
