Chandigarh, March 30- The Haryana Government has decided to launch a new scheme of compulsory computer education in Government Colleges of the State so as to enable the youth to compete globally and also to meet huge requirement of IT industry for technically skilled manpower.
While stating this today, Education Minister, Mrs Geeta Bhukkal said that under the scheme, a sum of Rs 20.62 crore had already been released for the colleges to start computer education. All the 75 Government Colleges in the State would be covered under the scheme. Initially, the scheme was proposed to be started in 61 colleges.
She said that the scheme aimed at providing opportunities for the college students, especially the students of weaker sections of the society to learn a minimum basic level of IT computer education and skills to enable them to seize the basic employment opportunities and simultaneously develop understanding for advanced IT education enhancing their career prospects and enriching the existing curriculum and pedagogy by including IT education and training.
It also aimed at designing the curriculum on the basis of industry inputs and market needs; ensuring students to acquire skills for higher studies and gainful employment; providing a level playing field to the learners in colleges by way of giving window of opportunity, especially in the rural areas and thereby bridge the economic and geographic divide in the society and promoting critical thinking and analytical skills amongst students and develop their attitude for self learning, she added.
Mrs Bhukkal said that under the scheme, at least a State-of-the-Art Modem 2 Computer Lab with network of 25 computers and internet connectivity would be established in each college. The pattern of utility of lab would be-in 180 hours of teaching of computers, three periods per week would be of theory and three periods per week would be of practical. In each practical group, 50 students could sit in the lab and in one day three practical groups could be taught. In one week 18 practical groups would be covering 900 students. The use of languages lab, if necessary, could also be used for these classes and the time table would be set up accordingly. Moreover, in 41 Colleges course of Computer were running and the computers labs were already available in these colleges. If need be these labs would also be used.
She said that the students in the colleges in the first year would be taught syllabus as framed in Level-I course which includes fundamentals of computers. The students of TDC II & TDC III would also be able to take up level I course. The students would complete 180 hours of computer training and would be examined by University/College. The certificate so obtained after passing Level-I exam would be awarded by the University/College and the certificates would be recognized in the market for placement in jobs.
She said that the students who have passed Level –1 Exam would be promoted for Level-2 and level-3 alongwith their promotion to the next class in general education and accordingly they would be awarded Level-2 and Level-3 Certificates.
If a students failed to clear Level-I in TDC-I, but cleared TDC-I Exam, he/she could again go for Level-I studies. One’s failure in computer course would not interfere in their otherwise promotion in General Education i.e. from TDC-I to TDC-II and from TDC-II to TDC-III, she added.
Mrs Bhukkal said that the syllabus had been adopted by Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak and Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra and the question paper would be set up by these Universities. Examination would be conducted as per common University date sheet and answer books would be got evaluated by the respective colleges. The Principal of the college would also get the practical examination of the students conducted in the colleges.
