Chandigarh, February 1: Under the pilot project of the Central Government to recharge the ground water, a four member team of World Bank visited villages namely Jaswanti and Sanghan of Kaithal Block and discussed various aspects with the villagers to ensure clean drinking water through Water Management Programme in public participation.
The four member team gathered information from the people of village Sanghan regarding the availability of drinking water in the village and also encouraged them to stop the wastage of water flowing unnecessarily in the drains. Informing about the availability of drinking water in the village, the village Sarpanch and other senior people said that the drinking water was being supplied to the village by the Public Health Department through tubewells. Regarding the hygiene in the village, the villagers informed the delegation that toilets have been constructed almost in every house in the village. They said that keeping in view the excessive consumption of water in the Sathi Dhan, the seed of Samar Moong was being provided by the State Government in adequate quantity to the farmers and with this considerably reduction in the consumption of water has been registered.
A pilot project has been started by the Central Government in 14 blocks of 10 States having overexploitation of water to recharge the ground water in which Kaithal Block of district Kaithal has also been included. Under this project, the people were being educated about the different ways of recharging ground water by analyzing the figures of underground water in the block. The active assistance of the people was also being sought in this work. The project would be completed in three and a half years time for which fund was being provided by the Central Government. In the pilot project, World Bank, Central Ground Water Board, Agriculture Department, Ground Water Cell and local Public Health Department have been included. Executive Engineer, Public Health Department, Kaithal Mr. Rajiv Batish has been designated as nodal officer of the project.
