Chandigarh, January 14 – Haryana Government has invited applications from eligible journalists, photographers and cameramen of print and electronic media for the Haryana Patarkar Puruskars for the years 2010 and 2011. These awards are given for outstanding articles, features, news items and photographs published or telecast on specific topics. The last date for submission of entry is March 15, 2012.
While stating this here today, Director General, Information and Public Relations and Cultural Affairs Department, Mr Shiv Raman Gaur said that applications have been invited for one Lifetime Achievement Award, two state level commemorative awards, 13 state level awards and 147 district level awards. The topics for awards were Development, Communal Harmony, Investigative Journalism, Analysis of political, social, economic and industrial activities in the state, Issues of Ppublic Interest and Impressive Photographs showing development of the state.
He said that as per the general criteria for eligibility, there was no bar on age or nationality to apply for the awards, but the entry should concern Haryana. Also, those applying for any of the awards should not have been convicted for any criminal offence or punished by any court of law or reprimanded by the Press Council of India for any misconduct or violation of ethics of journalism or for any other reason. There was no need to apply for the Life Time Achievement Award as the committee might recommend names of reputed journalists or media persons for their contribution to the field of
journalism. The recipients of district level awards could be considered for a state level award and recipient of a state level award could be considered for a commemorative award or a Lifetime Achievement Award. These awards could be given posthumously.
He said that as per the criteria for applying for awards, those applying for the print media awards would have to enclose with application four of their best published news items, features and articles and those applying for the electronic media awards would have to enclose four CDs of different items of their best coverage. For every item, three sets were to be submitted. The photographers of print media would have to enclose their best photographs (size 12″x15″) along with CD of photograph on high resolution. The cameraman of electronic media would have to enclose CD of his or her best images shot on high resolution. Every applicant would have to enclose his or her four latest passport size photographs. Any eligible media person could apply for various categories of awards.Mr Shiv Raman Gaur said that the Developmental Journalism award would be given for news items and write-ups written on developmental works in the state and social
uplift.
The Social Integration Journalism Award would be given for such news items and articles as not only encourage the feeling of brotherhood and communal harmony, but also inspire people to rise above petty differences of caste, colour and creed. The Public Welfare Journalism award would be given for news items and write-ups published on child welfare, women’s empowerment, Panchayati Raj Institutions, rural development, welfare of farmers and labourers and other areas of social welfare. The Cultural and Rural Journalism Award would be given for news items or write-ups which seek to promote the rich cultural heritage of Haryana and highlight rural development.
He said that Investigative Journalism Award would be given for news
items or articles which were focused on investigative reporting and help
promote new thought processes. The Analytical Journalism Award would be given for news items or write-ups analysing political, social, economic and industrial aspects of life. Photo Journalism Award would be given at state or district level for photographs highlighting developmental and other social aspects of the state. Special Award for Excellence in Cartooning Award would be given for published cartoons highlighting any significant achievement
of the government or suggesting solution to a special problem.
Giving details about the Electronic Media Awards, State Level and Awards for journalists based in New Delhi and Chandigarh covering Haryana, he said that Developmental Reporting Award would be given for
reports on developmental works and social upliftment. Social Integration Reporting Award would be given for reports which encourage the feeling of brotherhood and communal harmony, inspire people to rise above petty differences of caste, colour and creed and help strengthen emotional and national integration. Analytical Reporting Award would be given for reports analysing political, social, economic and industrial aspects of life. The Award for Documentary would be conferred for any documentary which highlights development, especially rural development, social as well as cultural aspects of life in the state and turns focus on any social evil to generate mass opinion against it. The Cameraman Award would be given for technical excellence exhibited by cameraman on reports highlighting development and social
welfare in Haryana.
The Director General said that under District Level Print Media Awards, the Developmental Journalism would be given for the news-items or write-ups on developmental works and social uplift, the Public Welfare Journalism award would be given away for news items or write-ups published on child welfare, women’s empowerment, Panchayati Raj Institutions, rural development, welfare of farmers and labourers and other areas of social welfare, the Cultural and Rural Journalism Award would be given away for
news items or write-ups promoting the rich cultural heritage of Haryana
and highlighting various aspects of rural development, Analytical Journalism award would be given for news items or write-ups analysing political, social, economic and industrial aspects of life and Photo Journalism award would be given at state or district level for photographs highlighting developmental and other social aspects of life in the state.
Explaining about the District Level Electronic Media Awards, he said that the Developmental Reporting Award would be given for
reports on developmental works and social uplift and Communal Amity Journalism would be given for reports which seek to promote brotherhood and communal harmony and inspire people to work for the prosperity of society by shunning the considerations of caste, religion and creed.
He said that the eligible entry should have either been published or telecast between January 1, 2010 and December 31, 2010 for the awards of the year 2010 and between January 1 and December 31, 2011 for the year 2011. Applications for State Level Awards should reach the office of Director General of Information, Public Relations and Cultural Affairs Department, Haryana, Media Centre, 8th Floor, Haryana Civil Secretariat, Chandigarh. Applications for Awards for journalists based in New Delhi covering Haryana should reach the office of Deputy Director, Information, Public Relations and Cultural Affairs, Haryana Bhawan, New Delhi. The applications for district level awards should reach the office of concerned District Information, Public Relations and Cultural Affairs Officer.
