Chandigarh, Feb 28-Haryana Education and Social Justice and Empowerment Minister, Mrs Geeta Bhukkal today said that the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee for the year 2011-12 reflected the positive approach of the UPA Government and the Congress party for the welfare of the common man.
She appreciated the proposal to double the honorarium of Anganwadi workers and also the proposal to reduce the age limit of senior citizens from 65 to 60 years and provide Rs 500 crore for welfare of women and empowerment of self help groups. She also appreciated the proposal to earmark Rs 21,000 crore for Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. She said that the proposal to introduce scholarships of students of class IX and X belonging to Scheduled Castes was a very positive step. The Haryana Government is already implementing a similar scheme. She said that the Haryana Government was already giving honorarium of Rs 3,000 per month to Anganwadi workers. The State has 50,000 Anganwadi workers and helpers.
