Chandigarh, Dec 13- Haryana Power Minister, Capt. Ajay Singh Yadav has welcomed the recommendations of the Haryana Backward Classes Commission regarding 10 per cent separate reservation to economically weaker sections of general category and other economically weaker castes.
Capt. Yadav who is also a member of six-member Sub Committee of Cabinet Ministers in respect of reservation for economically backward persons of general category, said here today that it is a significant step in the direction of providing social justice to the economically weaker sections of the society. He said that the State Government has accepted in-principle the report of the Commission. Haryana has become first state to take positive initiative regarding providing reservation on economic basis.
Capt. Yadav said that he was always in favour of providing reservation on the basis of economic conditions.
It may be recalled that Capt. Yadav had also made a written request to the Commission on March 30,2012 stating that those belonging to any other caste, but are not covered under any reservation should also be considered for reservation on economic basis.
He also appreciated that the Commission did not recommend any amendment on 27 per cent reservation already being provided to Backward Classes in the state. He also said that the Commission be requested to give detailed report about the detailed criteria and mechanism about reservation for economically backward persons expeditiously for which survey would soon be conducted by the Commission.
