He expressed confidence that the stringent measures for prudent financial disciplinethat he was about to undertake, would not be for his own or his party’s interest, but for the larger interest of the nation.

Shri Modi thanked the lakhs of party workers who had contributed to the 100 percent victory of the party in the state of Goa. He said that one year ago, it was at Goa that the party had chosen him to lead the campaign for the General Elections, and now after becoming Prime Minister, his first visit outside Delhi is to Goa.
He said, after independence, it is for the first time that a non-Congress Government has been formed with full majority, and the era of coalition politics has ended. The people have given a clear indication that political parties whether in power or in opposition, must pay heed to people’s expectations. This election has also proved that the people have defeated the politics of casteism, communalism, nepotism and family. The people had decided that the Government should be formed to provide security, prosperity, eliminate corruption, and meet the aspirations of the people, and solve their problems. Now, it is our duty to fulfil their expectations.
He asserted that his Government would remain connected to the people, even in power, and work to empower people for the developmental process. The Government has begun its work well. For ten years, the people of this country have not witnessed a working Government in Delhi. Our Government will work with clear conscience, clear policy and strong leadership to provide good governance.
