Catholic pop singer in Goa has been roped in to promote ethical voting during the March 3 assembly elections in the state.
Remo Fernandes was recently elected as the brand ambassador by the Election Commission of India for Goa.The singer said he would create awareness amongst people, especially youths.”I have been writing songs against corruption for last 28 years,” he said.
Fernandes’ posters and banners appealing people to come out in large numbers and vote would be erected across the state.
“I will also be giving media interviews asking people to vote. More than the title (of a brand ambassador), I see this as a great responsibility. I am taking this as a personal responsibility,” he said.
Fernandes, who has also composed songs for Bollywood films, said that this time the election in the state would be fought on the issue of corruption.
“The issues of religion, caste and creed have always shadowed the main issue of corruption in the previous elections but not this time,” he said in the presence of Chief Election Commissioner S. Y. Quraishi.
When asked whether he would compose a song for this election, Fernandes said, “I may compose a song but it always depends on my inspiration.”
