Goa,4 Nov :There are many young men and women out there in India who dreamt to be a sportsstars when they grow up, Perhaps, they want to be a well known individual who someone can look up to. He or she wishes to be a great role model. On the other hand, there are those individuals whose live to be true sportsperson who enjoy and make their country and state proud.
Such is the story of Miss Sharon Dias….. well known Tennis ball Cricket player of Goa who has represented India on two occasions as captain and Goa state for last 6 years in the Senior National and federation Cup Championships as Captain and won 1st , 2nd and 3rd places ………..
Sharon in 5 feet tall and 27, is commerce graduate and well known Tennis ball cricket personality from a village called Veling, Priol-Goa …..In early days ….she had lot of fond for cricket and started playing at the tender age of 13 year in the backyard of her house later she got opportunity to represent her College, GVM’s College, Ponda in season ball and from there she gave the trials for state Leather ball cricket team from west zone championship in the year 1999. but the charm and excitement of playing was not upto her satisfaction and weak association did not do any good for the game and finally by seeing the undemocratic and undeveloping approach of association and senior players she left leather ball cricket forever……………….
But her ambition to win and play cricket still existed, she gave trials organized by Goa Tennis Ball Cricket Association in the year 2003, and by her high skilled tennis ball cricketing and leadership skills was made captain of Goa team for the senior national at Andhra Pradesh but for first attempt the team failed and lost in the quarterfinals, from than along with Nilesh Naik and Haresh Parsekar , senior coaches and players strived hard to clinched the 12th federation Cup in Goa and than,… there started the tradition for Goa women teams at the national level from year 2004 to till date and during this period Goa women team won 4 senior national titles and one runner-up title and won 5 federation cup championship for Goa.
Her individual playing skills as batswomen and wicketkeeper and part-time bowler pav way in the Indian Tennis ball Cricket for Indo-Srilanka Series as captain where India defeated Srilanka by 2-1 . The challenge didn’t stop there, was continue in the Triangular series at Kushinagar, again captain of India team lost to Srilanka in the final but her batting and wicket keeping skills was louded by the strong 10000 croud there. She was declared best batswomen of the series.
Her representation at 19th senior National championship this year at Tirutanni, Tamil Nadu this year, was the most memorial because for first time she got the women of the final and championship of championship prize for her superlative batting and wicket keeping, her 53 runs( N.O.) in the league match was the best ever score by her in 8 over match in tennis ball cricket history for her.
Today Sharon dream, eat and sleep tennis ball cricket because her life has change drastically with tennis ball cricket and his team and coaches and association officials.
People today respect Sharon Dias as the true sportsperson because she played and enjoyed the game without barring down for money and pressures. She says the She had a passion to be true sportsperson who brings laurel to the state and his /her country……..
……..Now she has so many good wisher at her steps that she proudly says that she will remain humble and satisfying for the game of tennis ball cricket.
Sharon also says that Tennis Ball Cricket is not ordinary game but a recognized game of dept. of youth affairs and sports, Govt. of India and The sports authority of goa and there is big scope and future for the game….
She request all the girls and women amateurs sportsperson and who want to play tennis ball cricket is to join regular training at campal under Nilesh Naik or at marcel centre with Haresh Parsekar and you will get result in 15 days that’s the art of training done by association coaches. Today leather ball cricket has all the players trained by Nilesh Naik and Haresh Parsekar at campal.
Finally Sharon request all the parents and teachers to take the tennis ball cricket game as a serious game and prosper and made Goa proud…………
Sharon is getting married on 8th November 2008 but she says Tennis ball cricket will be at her heart and will remain humble for the game till her death……………….
