Delhi , Dec.14- ‘The present economic crisis compelled us to believe that economics is not sufficient to solve all the problems of the people. To make economics sufficient, we have to look around our epics particularly Bhagavad-Gita which is ism neutral religion free treatises on management and welfare economics,’ opined Dr. M. M. Goel, Professor of Economics & Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra while addressing the participants of the refresher course at Dept. of Business Economics, University of Delhi, South Campus sponsored by the CPDHE, here today. He was speaking on the topic “Spirituality in Economics for Facing the Challenges and Management of Global Economic Crisis”
He quoted the book ‘ Spiritual Economics’ by Dhanesvara Dass ( Don Rousse- An American) which examined the material energies of goodness affecting economic behavior resulting in all inclusive egalitarian societies which has become history now. The influences of the modern age eroding the values. The modern era has been characterized as passion to have more and more of everything leading to replace cooperation with competition with negative influences on people, society and the environment.
Professor Goel firmly believes that the rate of progress in spiritualism for peace and prosperity is faster than the rate of progress in materialism for peace and prosperity, therefore, there is need of accepting spiritually guided materialism as a solution of various problems which can reestablish economics as a queen of social sciences as conceptualized by Noble Laureate Paul Samuelson.
He justifies needonomics instead of greedonomics providing solution to the present global economic crisis very well diagnosed as a consequence of greed and irresponsible behavior of some by President Barrack Obama on January 20, 2009.
Earlier Professor Surinder Kumar welcomed & introduced Professor Goel.
Dr. Ananya Ghosh Dastidar was present on the occasion.
