India Policy Foundation is organizing a Seminar on8thDecember 2018 (Saturday) at Constitution Club, Deputy Speaker Hall, New Delhi titled ‘State, Democracy and Civil Society- Subjugation of Secular Values in Bengal’ from3:30 pm onwards. The seminar will observe the presence of Justice Iqbal Ahmed Ansari, Retd. Chief Justice of Patna High Courtand Chairperson of Human Rights Commission, Punjab as aChief Guestalong withSmt. Aishwarya Bhati, Additional Advocate General, Government of Uttar Pradesh asGuest of Honour.
The seminar intends to address the suppressionof secular values and coercion of right to free speech in West Bengal. Kazi Masum Akhtar,awell-known columnist and social activist from Bengal, who was brutally assaulted for introducing the National Anthem in Talpukur Ara High Madrasa as its Principal, would be present to deliver his views on the subject.
A book titled ‘Triple Denial of Justice, Dignity, Equality’ in English and ‘मैंभीनारीहूँ–मुस्लिममहिलाओंकान्याय,सम्मानऔरसमानताकेलिएसंघर्ष’ in Hindi, is also scheduled to be released in the said Seminar. Under the above-mentioned theme, a study was conducted with a focus on the Muslim community and the ill social practices related to their personal laws.IPF Research team undertook the task to bring forth narratives of twenty-five women from the community who have been marginalised and faced social discrimination due to the discriminatory personal laws. This Book contains twenty-five real life case studies on the same.
