New Delhi,30 Apr (Lok Sabha):The Government has proposed to set up a research centre for gas emission. Initially it will remain as a part of Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune which is an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Earth Sciences. The centre will study the science aspects of climate change. India with 16% of world population contributes to approximately 4% of global greenhouse gas emissions. India’s emissions approximately amount to 23 % of USA, 30 % of China, 37 % of European Union -15.
This information was given by the Minister of State for Environment & Forests, Shri S. Regupathy in a written reply to a question by Shri Balashowry Vallabhaneni, in the Lok Sabha today.
