New Delhi,22 Apr:The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during the period 1st April – 10th April 2008 were Rs. 2106.62 crore compared to Rs. 1795.15 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 17.35 per cent.
The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs. 1187.06 crore during 1st April – 10th April 2007 to Rs. 1431.47 crore during 1st April – 10th April 2008, showing an increase of 20.59 per cent. The total passenger revenue earnings during the period 1st to 10th April 2008 were Rs. 603.83 crore compared to Rs. 542.22 crore during the same period last year, reflecting an increase of 11.36 per cent. The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs. 54.64 crore during this period compared to Rs. 51.58 crore during the same period last year, showing an increase of 5.93 per cent.
The total approximate number of passengers booked during the period 1st to 10th April 2008 were 195.07 million compared to 185.58 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 5.11 per cent. In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during 1–10 April 2008 were 109.10 million and 85.97 million compared to 105.93 million and 79.65 million during the same period last year, registering an increase of 2.99 per cent and of 7.93 per cent respectively.
