New Delhi, 30 Apr:The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during the period 11th April – 20th April 2008 were Rs. 2133.76 crore compared to Rs. 1872.92 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 13.93 per cent.The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs. 1260.67 crore during 11th April – 20th April 2007 to Rs. 1469.12 crore during 11th April – 20th April 2008, showing an increase of 16.53 per cent. The total passenger revenue earnings during the period 11th to 20th April 2008 were Rs. 592.86 crore compared to Rs. 547.54 crore during the same period last year, reflecting an increase of 8.28 per cent.
The total approximate number of passengers booked during the period 11th to 20th April 2008 were 186.56 million compared to 183.22 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 1.82 per cent. In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during 11–20 April 2008 were 99.33 million and 87.23 million compared to 102.79 million and 80.43 million during the same period last year, registering a decrease of 3.37 per cent and an increase of 8.45 per cent respectively.
