New Delhi,Rajya Sabha:The Ministry of Rural Development through State Governments and Union Territoty Administrations implements a number of Cetrally Sponsored Schemes for Poverty Alleviation, employment generation, creation of rural infra structure and providing basic amenities for peopleliving in rural areas of the country. The programmes are Swarnjayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana (SGSY), National Rural Employment Gurantee Scheme(NREGS), Indira Awass Yojana (IAY),
Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme (ARWSP), Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC), Integrated Wastelands Mangement Programme (IWMP), Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC), Integrated Wastelands Management Prrgramme (IWMP), which includes Drought Prone Areas Programme (DPAP)and Desert Development Programme (DDP)and Integrated Wasteland Development Programme. The National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) was launched on 2nd Feburary,2006 covering 200 districts further extended to 330 districts and has now been extended to all the rural districts of the country w.e.f. 1.4.2008. These on going scheme are helpful to provide additional self and wage employment at the nearest place of their residence, increase income generate infrastructure for development of rural areas and provide basic amenities so that rural people including youth is not forced to migrate to urban areas for their livelihood.
