New Delhi,19 May:Attention of the Union Public Service Commission has been drawn to two questions appearing in the Indian History paper of Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2008 held on Sunday, May 18, 2008. These questions referred to the non-nomination of his elder son by Shivaji on grounds allegedly of his being “licentious” and the use of the term “mutiny of sepoys” in 1857.
The Commission holds Chhatrapati Shivaji and his family in the highest esteem and respects the sacrifices and contribution of our countrymen in the First War of Independence and has no intention whatsoever of causing any offence to any section of our people. The Commission regrets the wording of these questions and any hurt that may have been caused inadvertently by these two questions to anybody. It has accordingly been decided that these two questions in the aforesaid question paper stand deleted. The Commission will further streamline the mechanism to avoid such occurrences in future.Union Public Service Commission, New Delhi, May 19, 2008
