New Delhi,17 May:Some reports in the media have indicated that the State and the Union have some differences of opinion on some points relevant to the incidents that were perpetrated in Jaipur on 13th May 2008. In this connection, the Union Home Minister Shri Shiv Raj Patil made the following statement here today.
“The incidents that were perpetrated in Jaipur are most condemnable. They were perpetrated to disturb the communal harmony. Very wisely, the people have behaved in a responsible manner and have not allowed the design to succeed. They deserve our thanks and congratulations.
The victims need our understanding and sympathy. They should be helped in every respect. They are being helped in every respect by the State and the Union is also helping the State and the victims.
Steps need be taken to take action against the perpetrators of the incidents. Those who are on this job should be helped in every respect. The Union would help the State and its police to do its duty.
At this point of time, nothing should be done and said which would create obstacles and misunderstanding and is unhelpful in the task of investigating agencies.
For this purpose, no statement which can create misunderstanding between the agencies and governments should be made by those who are involved in doing their duties.
Issues which are not pertinent at this point of time need not be raised now. They were raised in the past. They can be raised in the future. At this time, they are better avoided. This is necessary to present a picture which is helpful for the task to be performed. With this objective in mind, everybody is coming forth and trying to be helpful. This should be appreciated by one and all. In fact, the people appear to appreciate it”.
