Delhi : Under the auspices of the National Platform of Disabled Employees (NPDE) hundreds of disabled government employees working in central/state government departments, PSUs, Bank and other government undertakings from various parts of the country held a dharna today at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
The National Platform of Disabled Employees (NPDE) was formed consequent to a meeting of disabled employees held in New Delhi on July 7, 2013.
Among the demands highlighted at the dharna were Reservation in Promotions; Posting near home-town; Enhanced pension for disabled employees on retirement; Disabled friendly environment at work place, transport allowance for deaf employees filling up the huge backlog of vacancies against the 3 per cent quota for persons with disabilities in various government departments, which is lying unfilled.
Various disability rights organisations and organisations of employees participated in the dharna.
Attached is the copy of the Memorandum addressed to the Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment, which was handed over to the Jt. Secretary in the department of Disability Affairs, this morning with a team of Mr.Kodakkal Shivaprasad, Trustee, Being Social, Shimoga, Mr.Muralidharan, National Platform for Disabled, New Delhi and Mr.Janardhan Reddy,Chairman Andhrapradesh Public Sector Employees Federation with a group from blind community.
