New Delhi, Aug 30: It is a known fact that the country’s premium golf club – the Delhi Golf Club is the busiest course in the country. However on Saturday, history was created when a record number of 320 golfers teed it up in the Am-Am event of the LG Northern India Open Amateur. This was incidentally the biggest ever Am-Am played in the whole of Asia.
While varying results are found, according to a certain report, 243 golfers in a similar event in Singapore (the number are unavailable for the rest of the world). The one-day event at the DGC saw the participation of a crowd that was a superior blend of corporate honchos, bureaucrats and club members. While the first tee off was at the break of dawn at 5.30 a.m., the last tee off was at 2 p.m. with a break of two and a half hours for the cross-over.
"We do an average of a minimum of 200 rounds per day but we never had so many people playing in an official tournament," confirmed Mr. C Chaudhri, the captain of DGC.
