New Delhi,16 May:The Delhi govt has zeroed in on 25 young and talented sportspersons, including 13 women, to provide them better training for the Commonwealth Games 2010 to be held in the national capital.
Delhi Sports Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely told that the government is trying to rope in the private sector for financial help aiming to promote the skills of these sportspersons with the hope that they will "bring laurels to country as well to the national capital."
"We are in talks with industry bodies such as Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and FICCI to pitch in money to support better training to these sportspersons," he said.
The Minister is hoping to get a positive response from these business organisations, which represent a large number of corporate firms.
"On our own we will ensure them (the sportpersons) free diet and coaching facilities so that they return with the medals in their respective fields," Lovely added.
Delhi is pinning its hopes on wrestling, archery and shooting.Wrestling was not among the disciplines in the last Commonwealth Games held in Melbourne, but this time, the host city is looking forward to bagging a number of medals in wrestling, he said. Courtsey : DD NEWS
