Chandigarh, September 30th: Week long celebrations of World Tourism week came to its finale today evening amidst lots of celebrations and festivities. The Prize distribution ceremony was presided over by Sh.K.K.Sharma Adviser to Administrator UT at Sukhna Lake here today. This year, the Theme of the World Tourism day is Tourism & Water. Protecting our common future”. The World Tourism Week events were much bigger in its scale & the events were spread over to various venues across the city with special emphasis on promotion of Chandigarh as a Tourist Destination.
The evening saw a thunderous performance by folk artists from Punjab including special performances on Folk Saaz, Laddi dance, Jindiya, Loomni, Bhangra, Folk songs etc by colourful artists, attired in traditional costumes.
During the World Tourism Week, a number of contests were organised to promote tourism alongwith Entertainment quotient with participation from various segments of Society. Even citizens of Chandigarh were seen to participate with zeal and enthusiasm in the tourism and Coffee Festival related events like Sculpture making, Photography Competition, Paryatan Bhawan, Coffee Quiz, Coffee Cup making Contest, Coffee slogan writing etc. with lots of enthusiasm and zeal .
The Chief Guest of the evening was Sh.K.K.Sharma, Adviser to the Administrator UT , felicitated all the winners of different Tourism contests. In the Paryatan Bhawan drawing competition, the first prize of Rs 12,500 was won by Tennyson and group of College of Architecture. The second prize of Rs 7500 was bagged by the team of Niyati Jain whereas the third position with prize money of Rs 5000 went to Surjyatapa Ray and team.
The photography Competition got a tremendous response from the Photography lovers who captured the moods of city beautiful in their cameras. The winners of this category are Shivjeet Singh on top position , followed by Garima Chandok and Permod kumar on second and third position respectively. Whereas consolation prize went to Simranjit Singh, Ishan Arora and Gurgenious Kapoor. The winners were given cash prizes worth Rs 12,000 in different categories.
Coffee Cup making Contest was a hit amongst kids who loved making Colourful coffee cups. The first position was bagged by Deepak and Bhanish of GMSSS 15 together. Japjeet and Deepakshi of DPS sector 40 were on second position. The third position was bagged by of Jaspinder GMSSS 28 D and Suraj Singh GMSSS 26. The consolation prizes went to Rohit Prashad Gmss 28, Mohit Gmsss 56, Ayush Aggarawal.
The 3D Art installations were the highlight of World Tourism week at Sukhna Lake and the students of College of Art and Architecture College got honorarium of Rs 10,000 from Tourism Department.
The World Tourism Week had an array of activities including 3 D Art Installation “Su-Prabhat- Morning Raga Musical Bonanza”, “Heritage Walks”, “Photography competition”, ““Free Hop On Hop Off rides”, “Bollywood Musical Nite by Kavita Krishnamurthy at Shopping Plaza Sector 17, Punjabi Musical Nite at New Lake, Sector 42, Coffee Festival at Hotel Mountview and Hotel Shivalikview” and much more. The Tourism Week, through these special tourism events enabled the residents and visitors to get involved in knowing various aspects of architecture, tourism spots and tourism entities
