Chandigarh, September 27th: To continue with the celebrations, the “World Tourism Day” began with the performance by a renowned city-based musician Subhash Ghosh, one of the talented disciples of Sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, at Sukhna lake . Pt.Subhash Ghosh on Saras Vani played with grace and ease and synchronized the morning with astounding harmony. All the morning walkers enjoyed the musical raga.
This was followed by Tourism Walk, Sh. Pradip Mehra, the Adviser to the Administrator, UT flagged off the Toursim Walk in presence of Sh.Ram Niwas Home Secretary UT, Ms Amandeep Director Tourism, and other senior officers of Chandigarh Administration The Touriam Walk was organized by Departments of Tourism Chandigarh Administration, in association with Dare Club . It was participated by eminent citizens, students of various government and private schools,. Around 600 participants of various age groups took part in the walk.
The Toursim walk was commenced from Open Hand Monument and the participants moved towards the Bouganvellia garden Covering a distance of 4 kms, and ended in the Museum and Art Gallery. On reaching the concluding point, all the students and participants interacted and enjoyed various activities. Dare club organized certain activities to check the physical and mental strength of students as well as teachers at Art museum wherein boys and girls equally participated.GS Virdi from sect-19,Suman Thakur from sec-12,Sachin Kumar student of Govt model sr. sec school sec 21and Kusum Sood from sec 12 were the winners and were handed over the awards by Shri.Ram Niwas ,IAS Home Secretary,Chd.
In the evening a play “Rashtriya Bhrastachar Adhiveshan”-a satire based on the poem, written by Ashok chakradhar , directed by Kuldeep sharma, starring popular film and TV artists was staged at Tagore Theatre, sector 18.The evening was inaugurated by the Chief justice Sh.Mukul Mudgal in presence of the Home Secretary Sh.Ram Niwas and Director Tourism Amandeep Kaur other senior officers of Chandigarh Administration.
Beside, this fun and entertainment programme was held at the Sukhna Lake where the students of College of Arts highly participated The students of this institution have visualized and executed the floats for celebration of World Tourism Week with spirit of commonwealth games showing Mascot “Shera” in different moods. These floats are so dominating and attract the tourists especially the children. Tourists loved to have joy ride on these floats and took their pictures with colourful Floats. . The Administration has given the permission to these students to ride their floats on Plaza, Sukhna Lake from 4.00 P.M. to 7.00 P.M. till 14th October, 2010. Till the celebration of Tourism week are on , the students can be seen busy in Portrait making and the Tattoo making of the tourists to promote the tourism in the city with the theme of art and culture at the Sukhna Lake .
The evening concluded with the art forms showcased by the North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala (Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India) in ‘Punjabi Musical Hungama’ at Lake, Sector 42, today where Punjabi folk dances, folk music & folk singing by Punjabi Folk Singers were held . Artist Ms. Manpreet Akhtar & group, Sufi Qwali: Paslewala Group (Sh. S.K. Sagar) , Folk Instruments and Folk Singing: (Prof.) Major Singh & Group and: Sh. Jaggi & Sukhi entertained the audience with Punjabi Humour.The evening was inaugurated by the Commissioner Roshan Sankaria, Mayor Anu Chatrath in presence of senior officers of the Chandigarh Administration and the Municipal Corporation
On 28th September, a Painting Competition will be held at 8 am onwards at Sukhna Lake. Whereas at 6.30 pm, “The Perfect Wife”-a social comedy play, directed by Nitin Jagdissh, starring Poonam Dhillon and Sooraj Thapar will be staged at Tagore Theatre, Sector 18.
