The India Post Team, Chandigarh, 20th June:FXB India Suraksha Arranged a Workshop at its Chandigarh office for its volunteers on Child Abuse program coordinator Mr. Umesh Jai Prakash Baurai defined Child abuse and said it is a primarily categorized in to four heads that is Neglect, Psychological Abuse, Emotional Abuse and Sexual Abuse.
He emphasized that children living in slums mostly suffer from neglect that is emotional, educational and physical. On question of violation of privacy he shared it is also one type of sexual abuse which slum children suffer due to cleansing facilities. He talked about government initiatives of constructing school toilets under TSC – Total Sanitation Campaign as to protect the rights of children due to violation of privacy.
On question of emotional abuse he criticized those parents and teachers, who terrorized, reject, ignore and isolate children in the name of punishment as it leads to depression and personality strangulation.
On issue of physical abuse Dr. Avnish Jolly gave example of it like striking, burning, shaking, piercing, pulling hair or ear and cutting of Childs air. He thanked NGOs constant efforts for the decrease in the Corporal Punishment and attracted attention towards the notification of Chandigarh Administration of banning corporal punishment. He also pointed out the utility of Child Line – 1098 and demanded that there should be improved stake holders efforts on stopping child abuse, reference of Police, Department of Social Welfare, NGOs and Media.
Mr. Raja Ram Gupta ORW, FXB India Suraksha gave vote of thanks and asked volunteers to take active part in protecting child rights and various types of abuses.
