SANJAY PAHWA,Chandigarh : The Government Home Science College, Sector 10, Chandigarh observed the International Women’s Day extending the knowledge and fun to the women of the adopted village, Khuda Ali Sher.
Nearly 200 NSS volunteers of the college participated in the function.
The NSS volunteers carried out a rally raising slogans, showing colorful posters and placards focusing on the theme ‘Equal Rights and Equal Opportunities’, Various competitions including poetry recitation and best out of waste were held in Khuda Ali Sher. The competitions involved the participation of the girls of Khuda Ali Sher as well which enhanced the purpose of holding the event there.

A skit on creating social awareness was also shown to the villagers. The skit emphasized on the importance of women in society and educated the audience on discarding various superstitions.
The students of B.Sc. played various games with the women and children of Khuda Ali Sher and also encouraged the audience to sing and play with them. The children along with the women at the village enjoyed the show.
A cultural programme organized included dances on bollywood songs and Punjabi folk dance, gidda. Various students recited poems on the topic ‘Role of Women in Society’ and sang songs to entertain the audience. The Chief Guest of the function was Principal, Dr. (Mrs.) Rita G. Singh and the Guest of Honour was Mr. Bikram Rana, NSS Liason Officer, Chandigarh Administration. Mr. Rana appreciated the efforts put by the faculty and the students of the college in putting up such a wonderful show. He emphasized on the education of girl child for building them up to be a better human being. The Student NSS Incharges, Jyoti and Neha of B.Sc. 3rd year thanked everyone for their participation and support.
