Chandigarh, April 17; Today, at a function organized by Department of Environment, Yuvsatta and Wapcos Limited, a ‘Water Conservation Fortnight’ was launched in the city from Govt. High School, Sector 47 A, Chandigarh. And artists of Mask Theatre presented a street play ‘Jal hi jiwan hai’ (Water-the elixir of life) on the occasion.
Giving information about the initiative Santosh Kumar, IFS, Conservator of Forests & Director, Department of Environment said that in view of the growing fresh water crisis, this campaign is to motivate more and more people, especially students to hold ‘Water Audit’ in their respective household, they’ll be sensitized to note down total consumption of water during cooking, gardening, leaking taps, while bathing, brushing teeth’s, shaving, in toilets or washing open spaces & vehicles and come out with ideas to reduce this consumption by at least 20%-25%.
He further added that during this fortnight around 115 Eco-clubs of the city are expected to organize various awareness programme on Water Conservation, like poster, elocution, slogan writing campaigns and public awareness rallies.
“Water is precious and beyond purchase & a casual approach will certainly bring the dooms day much closer”, expressed Pramod Sharma, Coordinator of Yuvsatta while addressing the students of Government High School. He said that they want the young ones to become ‘Agents of Change’ to restrict use of fresh water to the bare minimum. Programme ended with a vote of thanks by Headmistress Suman Lata Sharma.
Tomorrow, between 8.15 a.m. to 9.15 a.m., Yuvsatta volunteers will be reaching out to students of Govt. Government Model High School, Vikas Nagar, Chandigarh with message of water conservation.
