CHANDIGARH, OCT 6 : Fine batting by Narinder Walia (63) and tight bowling by Kulwinder Romy (6 for 20) helpedGodrej & Boyce XI register an easy- 23 run win over Fortis Healthcar XI, in a league match of the Vth Godrej Defender Cricket Tournament, being organized by the Chandigarh Sports Club, at the Guru Nanak Public School in Sector 36 ground here on Sunday.
Batting first after winning the toss, Godrej XI were given a good start by the openers as they put on 56 runs in 8 overs. Then the first bowling change, AP Singh bowled skipper Vaneet Chawla ( 28). Narinder Walia went on to score a well deserved half century off just 48 balls. His innings was studded with six fourrs and three sixes. He was finally run out due to a mix up in the 20th over. After his fall Monu Khera came up with unbeaten 48 runs. He hit five boundaries and two sixes.
Umesh Kaira hit a quick fire 37. Godrej & Boyce XI scored 220 for 3 in 25 overs.
In reply, Fortis XI lost their first wicket in the second over itself when Neeraj Rana was stumped off a wide ball. The other opener Kuldeep (35) was dismissed in the 10th over. Ravi, who came as second down, played some beautiful shots and completed his half century before he was bowled. Kulwinder Romy was the pick of the bowlers as he took 6 wickets for just 20 runs. The team finally ended 23 runs short
of the target with just one wicket in hand.

Rain played spoil sport in the match between United Sports Club XI and HDFC Bank XI. United Sports Club made a marathon score of 204 for 5 in 25 overs. Aatish scored 57. Gaurav contributed 42.
In reply, things were not all well for HDFC Bank XI as they lost both their openers by the 5th over. Charanjit played a good innings and was on 53 when rain mandated the use of D/L method. United Sports Club were declared the winners.
