26 Aug The choice this time is very clear: either vote for a team that derives its strength from teachers or one that has its anchoring elsewhere. Should players outside the campus dictate PUTA affairs or for that matter, affairs of the University as a whole? Would teachers who write books, publish in prestigious journals, win scholarships and bring projects be in any way recognised and given positions of responsibility in the University set-up? Or are they to be ‘used’ cosmetically only to garner some ‘A+ star’ from a NAAC team? Can we have some objective criterion in place to appoint teachers in positions of academic and administrative significance? If elected, besides taking up key issues of working towards Central University status for PU and early implementation of new pay scales highlighted in the previous hand-out:
1. We shall demand for an objective criterion for the appointment of various positions of benefit in the University. Those who bring projects and spearhead them should however be carefully distinguished from those who are given offices of profit by the Establishment.
2. There is a paucity of teachers in various departments. As a result of this most of the teachers are over-worked. We demand immediate recruitment of faculty in the departments. Otherwise research-work of the teachers would suffer seriously. Let us not forget that quality research is the fulcrum of any good University.
3. The opening of new departments practically every fortnight, on and off the campus, has put enormous pressure on the existing infrastructure. As a result of this conditions of research have worsened. The existing infrastructure is in bad shape. We shall demand special allocation of funds for the repair of existing infrastructure, including houses.
4. It would be in the academic interest of the University if teachers are retired only once, i.e., towards the end of session. This practice is followed in the neighbouring universities. Such a provision would help us avoid unnecessary interruptions in the academic schedule.
5. In order to have smooth functioning of labs and other research-work, University should ensure uninterrupted power-supply. We shall demand for the installation of a proper power-back-up system.
Another issue that cannot be postponed any longer is the availability of master seniority list of the entire PU teaching faculty. We shall demand that this list be put on the PU web site. Once this list is flashed, the room for manipulations would be curtailed. In this supplementary hand-out, we want to reiterate loud and clear: We shall strive to make the campus free from the manipulators and power-brokers.
Kindly note that each voter this time shall have sixteen votes in all: five for office bearers, four each for Group I & II executive, and three for Group III executive. You have to mark cross (X) in the block of the candidate of your choice with blue ball point pen, which shall be provided at the venue.
Vote for the entire team.
